Election Commission of India has been discussed under Part XV of the Indian Constitution. Election Commission is an independent, Constitutional body which has been discussed under Article 324 – Article 329 of the Indian Constitution. The objective of the Election Commission is to conduct free and fair elections for the Parliament of India i.e., Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, State Assemblies, President and Vice President.
India`s 1st Chief Election Commissioner is Sukumar Sen and our Current and 23rd Chief Election Commissioner is Sunil Arora. Since 1993, Our Election Commission is a multi member body.
All the members of the Election Commission of India are appointed by the President.
