Abdul Karim Telgi and the stamp paper scam, the names that took the entire country by storm.

The stamp paper scam was revealed in the year 2001.

Born in Khanapur, Karnataka, Abdul Karim Telgi and his family used to sell vegetables in a railway station. But still he made it to complete his bachelor’s degree in Commerce in Belgaum.

Telgi decided to go to Mumbai to focus on earning and to support his family.

While he was in Jail, he met Ram Ratan Soni. Ram Ratan Soni was a stamp vendor from Kolkata. Together, they made a plan to do the stamp paper scam.

After getting out of jail, they initiated the plan.

Abdul Karim Telgi started selling fake stamp paper in return for a commission. Then he decided to get a licence as a legal stamp vendor.

Then, they started printing the fake stamps that it was difficult to spot the difference between the two. They both made huge profits through this scam.

In 1995 both Ram Soni and Abdul Telgi again needed to face Mumbai Police.

Their license was cancelled and cases filed against them. But with some big names, Telgi came out of that mess.

He made very good connections with big people that he got his own printing press on the very famous Mint Road present in Mumbai.

With this press, he again started to print the fake stamps. But this time, he had even more links to get cover up from the authorities.
